Individual Supporting Members Heather Bowerman Margarita M. Balmaceda is Associate Professor of International Relations and Diplomacy at Seton Hall University and Associate of the Davis Center for Russian and Eurasian Studies at Harvard University (USA) and (2005-2007) Humboldt Fellow at the University of Giessen (Germany). Her education includes a PhD in Politics from Princeton University (1996) and post-doctoral training at Harvard (1996-1997). A specialist on Eastern European energy politics, Prof. Balmaceda has also been consultant/panelist for the Fulbright Program, the National Science Foundation, and other grant-giving organizations in the US, Canada and Germany. Dr. Maria Tzortziou is a faculty member of the University of Maryland and a Research Associate at the Smithsonian Environmental Research Center, performing her research at NASA - Goddard Space Flight Center in the United States. She holds a BSc degree in Physics, a MSc degree in Environmental Physics, a MSc degree in Meteorology, and a PhD degree in Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences. Dr. Tzortziou's research interests and expertise are in the areas of bio-optical oceanography, carbon cycle, photochemical and microbial degradation of dissolved organic matter in coastal waters, remote sensing observation techniques, and radiative transfer in the ocean and atmosphere (ultraviolet radiation, tropospheric ozone, aerosols). |
